Ladies, drinking beer could be actually good for your health.  According to a new swedish study, if you drink two glasses of beer, it can reduce the risk of a heart attack by about 30 percent copared to women who never drink or drink a lot.

Researches at the Gothenburg university followed more than 1500 women for a period of 50 years. They picked up a group of middle aged women and from a period between 1968 and 2000.

The women in the research had to answer several questions about their drinking habits, like how much they drink and what kind of drinks they choose – eg beer, wine, spirits…and then about their health and physical symptoms they have been experiencing.

The answers to the first question varied from daily, to no drink in the past ten years. As for their health, the researches found that furing the 32 years period 185 women suffered from a heart attack, 162 experienced  a stroke, 160 developed diabetes and  345 women had a cancer.

Afer analysing the study, the researches concluded that drinking two glasses of beer significantly reduces the risk of heart attack.

One of the researches says: „ We checked the results against other risk factors for cardiovascular diseases and all of this confirms our findings and makes it more substantial.“

However, the study was not able to conclude if moderate drinking of wine has similar effect, so they are definitely planning some follow-up studies.

There is also bad news for women who drink spirits more often than once or twice a month as drinking spirits is connected with about 50 percent higher risk of being diagnosed with cancer and also the risk of dying of cancer is similarly higher.

The findings of the study, published in the Scandinavian Journal of Primary Health Care, is supported by other similar researches in other countries, for example in Spain. This health benefit of drinking beer is most probably thanks to vitamins, folic acid and calcium that is present in the grains from which is beer made.

Dominique Hange, author of the published study, says, that even though the study confirmed health benefits of drinking beer, there is still a lot to find out about the healt benefits of alcohol in general. So there surely will be more research, especially in regards of wine.

So let´s see what they will find out and in the mean while, cheers to healthy heart.
