I choose to be Physiotherapist

I had completed my twelfth and was waiting for my results and in the mean while I saw a newspaper advertisement about physiotherapy and soon I googled and felt to join Physiotherapist course. I had a desire but I was probably waiting for an opening. I saw the advertisement and sent the google result to my parents and family.

We went to the institute and soon I got selected. Now two years have passed since I joined this course. In this time many friends and their parents asked me about its future, scope and earning.

Now, I can say every course is important and fruit bearing. But first it is important to listen to your heart if you feel you have desire, only then join this course. Gone are the days when physiotherapists dealt only with neck or back aches. Now they are there in parallel with all types of doctors like gynecologists, heart, plastic to general surgery. In fact, physiotherapy accompanies each branch of medicine.

It is actually a science that deals with helping patients to regain maximum functions through exercises and therapies such as heat, wax and electricity. We help a patient to get maximum rehabilitation if not complete curing.

The word Physiotherapy is made up of two words Physio means Physical agents and Therapy means treatment. So it is a branch of medical science where a patient gets treatment through exercise, electrical equipment like Muscle Stimulator, or rays like Infra-red, Ultraviolet etc.

Today physiotherapists are needed everywhere. Hospitals like AIIMS have their separate physiotherapy units attached with other departments. All types of patients for examples orthopedic, cardiology, cancer, from general surgery ward etc. and even they give preventive treatment for scoliosis to kids too.

They are required in places such as hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, private clinics, special schools, fitness centers, and non-government organizations working with the disabled and senior citizens.

The treatment through physiotherapy is very efficient and cheaper than other traditional medication. It has less or no side effect compared to other systems of treatment so they are very popular in our elite society.

We get patients suffering from degenerative disorders like arthritis, neurological disorders and sports persons. It is one of the rapidly growing areas of medicine that involves heat radiations, massages, tractions, hydrotherapy and short wave diathermy (SWD).

We are experts in handling certain physical and mental problems of the patient. We go to the roots of the problems of certain conditions of particular parts of the human body such as the brain, nervous system, soft tissues, joints, bones, heart or lungs.

As my two years has added knowledge and professional skills soon another two and half years will add more. Thanks for reading me.

Generally people believe that physiotherapy is nothing more than massage or chiropractic therapy but with modern medical equipment and treatments physiotherapy is more than that. It does not just remove the muscular tension but also curtails future problems. It starts showing results within a few visits at physiotherapy clinic. In short, there are some conditions and diseases where physio treatment is proved as the best option.

We help the patient by designing personalized exercise programs that solve the overloaded joints.  We also treat sore knees and tendonitis through traditional physiotherapy techniques.  Sometime a good deal of problem is solved by helping the patient in selecting the right shoes with the right support and conditioning for sedentary patients to move again. Such simple things can be applied for the patients whose mobility has declined due to aging or the side effects of chemotherapy.

Back pain Problems: We often unknowingly sit in a wrong posture and that results into muscles strain and pain. Nowadays the problem of arthritis is also greatly increasing and this too causes back pain. Of course the treatment will depend on the causes of the problem and source of the problem, but some common principles also need to apply such as weight management (to reduce stress on joints), muscle strengthening (to improve mobility and reduce recurrence) and re-patterning of muscles. That means changing of all the muscles coordination involved in that particular area which can be rightly done by a series of dynamic exercises. There are about two dozen muscles in and around the lower back that really matter. Strengthening them all really benefits the patient.

Sometimes, as we are depressed, we choose eating food to help us deal with the situation or to make ourselves feel better. Unluckily, the foods we eat can provide opposite effects. Consuming junk food when you are depressed may actually make your situation turn bad. Some of the worst triggers are food items containing high levels of the following:

  • Caffeine
  • Heavily processed ingredients
  • Refined sugars
  • Saturated fats

Following a healthy diet and a regular exercise routine can help people control and reduce signs and symptoms of depression. It might even entirely beat them off.

  1. Alcohol And Illegal Drugs

Hydrogenation is a process which may turn veggie oil into a new form that is more solid, making it a more shelf-stable item. Any food cooked with hydrogenated oils and has trans-fats can contribute to depressed feelings and anxiety potentially. Saturated fats, which could be found in butter, high-fat dairy, and deli meats can clog arteries and prevent the blood from flowing to our brain – and optimal brain functions are what all of us want, if we are trying to stop the blues.

  1. Artificial Sweeteners

Do not think that just because artificial sweeteners do not sugar, then they will allow us to humor our sweet tooth without increasing our risks of depressed feelings and anxiety. Aspartame, the common (and very harmful) ingredient that we can find in some items, such as diet soda, can block the neurotransmitter serotonin production. This can lead to all manner of neuro maladies, such as insomnia, headaches, mood changes, and of course, depression. However, it is not just aspartame: Equal or NutraSweet may also be negative for our mental health.
